This third stage, covering 14 km, begins in the quiet, bucolic village of Bayons. Before leaving, don’t miss a must-see stop on the Haute-Provence Geopark Discovery Trail: the Church of Notre-Dame de Bethléem, a listed historic monument and a truly remarkable building.
On a narrow, winding track surrounded by marl cliffs, the route plunges into a wild valley, far from civilization.
In this natural setting, a path—alternating between tracks and trails—winds through the Gorges du Sasse National Forest.
At the end of a forest road lies the “Bois Noir.” The route runs along the edge of the mountain pasture and offers an unobstructed view of the high Alpine peaks, with the Ecrins Massif as a backdrop. Guard dogs may be present in this area. Hikers should remain vigilant if they encounter them (see recommended actions to take). In 2024, a scenic overlook was built at Bois Noir so you can enjoy the view!
The trail continues through open farmland, pastures, and wooded fields to the foot of the village of Turriers. An orientation table is located at the top of the village, at its highest point.
