Discover the village of Orpierre and its rich history, head up to higher ground, and take in the views of the Blaisance and Céans valleys.
This first stage begins by passing through the village of Orpierre, followed by a steep 3-kilometer climb to reach Le Suillet. The trail continues along the ridges to the Col de Garde, offering incredible panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains at several points along the way. From there, all you have to do is head downhill to the lodge, passing through a pine forest and a marl field.

Description

From the parking lot, head toward the Route des Princes d’Orange. 

  1. Follow the Grand Rue for 90 meters, then turn right onto the Draille de la Tour Romaine (GR®). At the “Sentier du Gros Doigt” intersection (elevation 700 m), follow the signs for Trescléoux (GR®) for 2 km.
  2. When you reach the intersection with a trail, head toward Trescléoux-Lagrand (GR®). Continue for 900 m and turn right to reach the switchbacks leading to the summit of Suillet.
  3. Follow the ridge straight ahead for 2 km to reach the junction known as “Les quatre chemins.” If you head toward “Garde,” the trail is a round trip and offers a view of the entire valley. Turn right to follow the direction of the Mont Garde stopover lodge (GR®). At the “Ste Grique” junction (elev. 740 m), head toward Trescléoux (GR®) and cross a pasture area marked by two gates (be sure to close the gates properly!). Continue straight ahead to reach the marl terrain, following the GR® trail markers (steeper and more rugged section!).
  4. At the “Pied de Garde” junction (alt. 640 m), follow the signs for Trescléoux (GR®) for 600 m until you reach the Mont-Garde stopover.
