Much like the Pre-Alps, this hilly route will challenge even seasoned climbers, with no fewer than seven mountain passes on the itinerary between Drôme and Hautes-Alpes.

Description

  1. Starting from Serres, follow the D27 north. The route passes through Sigottier and its cliffs, which are popular with rock climbers.
  2. Just past La Piarre, the Col de Carabès takes you into the Drôme department. Stay on the D106, which passes through Valdrôme (a small mountain village and the southernmost family-friendly resort in the Drôme).
  3. Head toward Rosans by crossing the Col de Pommerol (Col de la Fromgère). Now ride past the former priory of St-André-de-Rosans, through Montjay, then climb the Col de Serre Larobe leading up to L'Epine. Head east on the D 994. These are the final pedal strokes to reach Serres.

Recommandations

WARNING: On this route, you may encounter livestock guard dogs tasked with protecting herds from wolf attacks.
To minimize the risk of conflict, bringing pets is strongly discouraged, even if they are on a leash.

Cyclists, please be especially vigilant: if you see a herd, you must get off your bike, stop, and let the dogs get a good look at you. Then give the herd a wide berth, keeping your bike between you and the guard dog.

In any case, stay calm, avoid sudden movements, and do not attempt to cross through the herd.
