Veillanne is a long, varied trail that circles the Sainte-Colombe Valley. After a climb through the forest, you’ll discover the charming little village of Sainte-Colombe, built around its rock, as well as the village’s history, including its mining past.
This trail passes through several pastures (owned by the rancher). To avoid these areas during grazing seasons, alternative routes have been established in collaboration with the rancher. Please read the information signs carefully, observe the restricted dates, and use the suggested alternative routes.
Please note: the route we provide online may not necessarily be updated to reflect grazing dates (as the rancher posts the dates on the signs himself). We therefore count on you to carefully follow the trail markers and on-site signs.

Description

1: The route starts in the center of the village of Les Bègües. Walk down Rue du Rivet to the town hall annex (“Veillanne par les Mélières”), then at the fork, turn left and continue along the path that runs alongside the fields until you reach a footbridge.
Alternative route via “Veillanne via RD 30”: Head back up Rue du Rivet, then follow RD 30 to the left. 900 meters further on, take the small road to the left and, after the bridge, take the trail to the left. Follow this trail until you find a path that climbs to the left (cairn). Follow the trail uphill to reach the junction where you rejoin the main route (point 3 on the map).

2: Cross the bridge, follow the hedge to the left, then at a graffiti-covered shed, head up to the right into the woods, following the edge of the field. Turn right and continue along this trail through the woods until you reach an intersection.

3: Once you reach the intersection, turn left to climb up to the Veillanne ridge (a fairly long climb with some steep sections) (Shared trail! Watch out for mountain bikers coming down fast!)

4: After this climb, continue on the trail to the left to reach a dirt road. Follow this road downhill to the village of Ste Colombe.

5: Once you reach the village, continue along the road to the right just before the church. Further on, the road turns into a dirt track. Continue along this track until you reach Champ Curel.

6: At Champ Curel, continue straight ahead (toward “Le Pouly via Les Chiquets”).
At Les Chiquets, continue along the dirt track to the left toward Le Pouly / Les Bégües. Head back down until you reach the paved road.
Alternative route via “Les Bégües via Bergerie Bonnet”: Head back down the trail to the left until you reach the road, then follow the road to the right to Le Pouly (point 8 on the main route).

7: Once on the road, turn left following "Les Catoyes via La Praderie / Les Bégües."
Alternative route via “Les Catoyes via RD30”: Follow the road ahead and turn left onto RD 30. Follow it uphill, then turn left at the Les Catoyes campground. Cross the campground, following the path downhill to the Céans River. Return to point 2 of the main route.

8: At Le Pouly, take the second path on the right (to avoid the path that runs right in front of the house) toward “Les Catoyes via La Praderie.” The trail runs along the fields until it returns to point 2.

2: Return to Les Bégües by following the same route as on the way there.
  • Departure : Les Bègües hamlet, parking on Rue du Rivet
  • Arrival : Les Bègües hamlet, parking on Rue du Rivet
  • Towns crossed : Orpierre and Sainte-Colombe
