Le Jas Jirard is an old dry-stone shepherd’s hut where you can spend the night. This makeshift dry-stone shelter, located on Chanteduc Mountain, was restored by enthusiasts during community work projects. (No water or electricity: plan to be completely self-sufficient.) At the mouth of the Méouge Gorges, this trail offers a total immersion in the heart of nature.

Description

  1. This route starts at the Salérans parking lot, next to the town hall. It begins by climbing up the hill along a small path in front of the town hall, surrounded by boxwood.
  2. Once on the road, walk about 250 meters, then take the trail on the right and climb up to the intersection at the edge of the forest.
  3. At the fork, turn right and continue on the trail that leads into the woods until it ends.
  4. At the end of the trail, take the path that climbs to the left up the slope and continue the steep ascent along it until you reach the ridge.
  5. Follow the ridge to the left until you reach the signpost, then turn left onto a trail leading to the mountain hut.
  6. The route descends to Près des Auberts and continues along a trail. Stay on this trail, then turn left at the intersections to return to junction No. 3. Descend to Salérans via the same path used on the way up.
