This 5-kilometer family-friendly trail, nestled amid southern Alpine vegetation, leads from Antonaves to the Méouge (the southernmost river in the Hautes-Alpes). Designated a Natura 2000 site, it features a rich diversity of natural habitats and is home to remarkable animal species, making the Méouge Gorges a truly unique destination.

Description

  1. From the fountain square, head up toward Pic St-Cyr along the road on the right.
  2. At the intersection (marked by the “Rivet” signpost), turn right onto the trail that runs alongside the lavender fields and old orchards toward the plain. The trail gradually widens into a broad, rocky path overlooking the Buëch Valley.
  3. At the “La Plaine” signpost, turn right onto the trail that winds through the vegetation.
  4. In the oak forest, continue straight ahead toward “Le Pénail,” which descends to the gorges. Gradually descend until you come upon the village of Pomet, visible on the opposite slope, and the Méouge River below.
  5. Turn right and follow the Méouge along a balcony trail toward the Roman Bridge.
  6. In the pine grove (signpost “La Pinède”; round trip possible to the Roman Bridge), take the trail that climbs through the forest and continues along a balcony overlooking the Méouge. The trail becomes a track that leads back to the village.
