This pleasant, shaded hike takes place mainly through wooded areas. It offers a chance to explore the central part of the Hautes Terres de Provence. The section of the trail along the Picouse ridge offers a vast and spectacular panorama stretching from the Ecrins Massif and the Ubaye Valley to the summit of Les Monges.

Description

  1. From Route D1, 2 km past Turriers, at the hamlet of Gierre, take the paved road to the houses. Behind them, continue along the Grand Bois trail.
  2. At the first intersection, take the trail on the left.
  3. At the place called Piaure (1,240 m), continue along the trail and follow the path to reach another very steep trail.
  4. At the Peyrouret junction (1,390 m), follow the trail on the right, then a footpath, to reach the pastures on the Picouse ridge.

Recommandations

WARNING: On this route, you may encounter livestock guard dogs protecting herds from wolf attacks.
It is strongly discouraged to bring a pet dog, even if it is on a leash.
If you come across a herd, stay calm: stop, let the guard dogs get a good look at you, then give the herd a wide berth without making any sudden movements.
