At the foot of Montagne de Jouère, the Tour du Puy connects the hamlets of Reynier and Beaudinard via a trail at the base of the mountain pastures.
The first part of the climb follows a trail dotted with fossils and the remains of clay pipes that once carried water to Reynier. A forest path leads to the ruins of Dalmas (1,248 m). The descent along a farm track and the Beaudinard trail brings you back to the starting point.

Description

  1. From the village square, take the road toward Beaudinard. Very soon after leaving the village, turn right onto the ascending trail.
  2. Follow the trail, which turns into a footpath after “Les Granges.” Alternating between gentle and steep, sunny and shaded, it leads to a small pass and the “Dalmas” ruin. This is followed by a descending track leading to a ford.
  3. Continue along this track.
  4. At Riou Froid (1,100 m), stay on the track and pass a trail on your right leading to the Palabiouse Pass. Cross another ford to reach a private track on the right leading to “Gayne.”
  5. Continue along the track for 500 m.
  6. At Ravin de Gayne (1,060 m), follow the gravel or paved trail (depending on the section); you’ll walk along the overhanging bank of the Reynier stream toward the hike’s starting point, passing near a pretty waterfall.

Recommandations

WARNING: On this route, you may encounter livestock guard dogs protecting herds from wolf attacks.
It is strongly discouraged to bring a pet dog, even if it is on a leash.
If you encounter a herd, stay calm: stop, let the guard dogs get a good look at you, then give the herd a wide berth without making any sudden movements.
