GeologyChabre Mountain
Overlooking the Buëch valley, Chabre Mountain is an unmissable massif of the Sisteronais-Buëch territory.
Well-known for its flight area, air competitions are often organised. Back in 2009, Chabre Mountain had welcomed the world hang-gliding championship.
It also is a massif with a lot of hiking routes. They offer wonderful views of Lure Mountain, the Écrins massif and Ventoux Mount.
A viewpoint indicator helps you to situate the different surrounding summits.
Description
Suitable for most wind directions, this FFVL-certified site is ideal for paragliding. Unlike the narrow, steep Alpine valleys, the Buëch valleys are wide and allow for safe emergency landings. Its sporting potential is recognized by all pilots, and numerous records have been broken on round-trip distances, and even on triangular routes. Many competitions are held there each year, and it hosted the World Hang Gliding Championships in 2009!
The ridge is easily accessible via a paved forest road. Finally, accessibility is good thanks to the many roads that cross all the valleys: it is easy for pilots to be picked up and return via the main roads.
